Ugandan Technology and Management University (UTAMU) is a private university that was established by the National Council for Higher Education in March 2013, in accordance with the laws of Uganda. UTAMU is accredited to run academic programmes at all levels of the Higher education system
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private University, owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Uganda. The University was officially launched on 18th October 1993 by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. UMU received a Charter from the Government of Uganda on 2nd April 2005. In her 29 years of existence, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) has developed into a reputable institution in the region and has over 30,000 Alumni impacting societies worldwide.
Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 100 history. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
Soroti University, by Statutory Instrument No. 34 of July 2015 became a fully-fledged Public University under the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act of 2001 as amended.

It Mission is “To provide an environment that enables the cultivation of competence, confidence, creativity and character in the academic, professional and social interaction”.
Ndejje University (NDU) was founded in 1992. It is owned by all six Church of Uganda (CoU) Dioceses in Buganda Region, the “Ndejje University Foundation Consortium”.
The University is chartered by the NCHE, and has about 10,000 students and 500 staff based in Uganda. The University works jointly with partners in an effort to solve local and global challenges, with the aim of improving the world and social conditions.
Historically, the quest for a public university in West Nile can be traced back to the 1970s when initial attempts by government to establish a public university in the region were hindered by the country's turbulent past wars. The desire for a government supported university in the West Nile region continued to be expressed in various fora, both within and outside the region.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), a pivot of higher education in Uganda, traces its roots back to October 1989. Initially housed within the repurposed Mbarara District Hospital’s School of Midwifery, the university was formally established through the Mbarara University of Science and Technology Statute 1989, enacted by the National Resistance Council.
Established in 1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa. In January of that year, the school, which was later renamed Uganda Technical College, opened its doors to 14 day students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics.
Kyambogo University (KYU) was established with the main aim of promoting and advancing knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education and such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society.
